Celebrating David Lynch, the best to ever do it.

"What a heavy load Einstein must've had. Fucking morons, everywhere." - David Lynch

Oof, y’all.

I have aged 10 years in the three weeks since David Lynch returned to the cosmos.

When I originally pitched this series back in August, I had planned out the first five months of screenings. From the very beginning, Wild At Heart was always going to be our WTF Wednesday Valentine’s Special. In fact I announced it publicly for the first time at our Big Trouble In Little China screening at the beginning of December.

Fast forward to January 16th. We had just gotten the ticketing link live and I was literally writing the Instagram post announcing this screening when the first (of many) group texts came in that David Lynch had died, and all of a sudden it felt like I was planning a wake.

Normally these screenings are (not quite) a one-man show, but I do usually write all the copy, create all of the graphics, do all of the social promo, put up flyers across Ulster county, edit together the preshow, and introduce the movie. It’s a lot of fun, but also a lot of work.

This one was a real community effort, and I’m thrilled with the way it’s played out so far. Taking over preshow duties are the fine folks at Sleepover Trading Co. in Catskill, and returning to take over intro duties is Bel from Kingston Film Foundation, who introduced our Big Trouble In Little China screening, and also did a great writeup on this screening in the most recent Hudson Valley Crucial Viewing Newsletter.

But wait, there’s more! I’ve been a fan of Hole In The Wall Donuts since we first moved to Kingston, and have been wanting to do a donut popup with them since I started programming at the theater. Lucky for all of us, they’re big fans of David Lynch too, and have created an incredible lineup of Lynchian donuts they’ll be selling before the screening.

Right now we’re sitting at 130 tickets sold, which is literally double the previous best attendance for a WTF Wednesday screening. If you’re planning on coming, I recommend buying your tickets now, and getting to the theater early because there is a very real chance that both the tickets and donuts sell out.

2/5 - WTF Wednesday: Wild At Heart

This whole world is wild at heart and weird on top.

R | Crime/Romance | 2 Hours 4 Minutes | $10.00 General Admission/$6.00 Members

WTF Wednesday is thrilled to present David Lynch’s incendiary tale of love, violence and snakeskin jackets, WILD AT HEART!

Adapted from the novel by Barry Gifford, WILD AT HEART stars Nicolas Cage and Laura Dern as Sailor and Lula, a pair of young lovers on the run from Lula’s mother Marietta (Dern’s real-life mother Diane Ladd, in an Academy Award®-nominated role). Sailor and Lula’s journey takes them into the dark heart of America, where dangers and temptations lurk… and where only their love can truly protect them. But even their all-consuming passion may not withstand the sinister presence of Bobby Peru (Willem Dafoe in an unforgettable performance).
